But...there are times when we’d rather not sell soothers. There comes a time in every child’s life when (s)he’s outgrown his soother. It may be comforting and fulfil the child’s urge to suckle, but it can turn into a habit. We, too, think that a child should be weaned off the soother by the age of 3 or 4.

In our experience, parents can find it difficult to encourage their child to give up the soother. They’re right: it is difficult. Something that has become so comforting shouldn’t just be taken away from a child.

And so we decided to write a book: The Giving Up Your Soother Book. This 15-day stop plan has been carefully put together with the assistance of a paediatric dentist and a children’s speech-language pathologist. Before I knew it, a stunning, hand-sewn green dress had been created by a seamstress in her village. And so I travelled to Spain to be measured up, and to take part in a photo-shoot.
The first pages were greeted with great hilarity. Initially I was a little critical of some of the photographs, but once I’d got over the embarrassment I realised that...it’s funny and fun!

And delighted to see that it really resonates for children. I once participated in a live hand-in-your-soother session at a Prénatal store.
